My brother Rick introduced me to The Avett Brothers. I am forever grateful he did. Their songwriting, sound, and depth have been a balm to my soul. When I first really listened to their song, February Seven, I was struck. Here is my attempt at performing it (with a brief discussion of chord progression I was explaining when I first recorded the song as a demo for Rick).

Me too, Carrie. The song has a way of reaching into the heart of sadness that comes with living in a world of suffering and breaks through the tropes people and organizations offer as a smokescreen to pretend it isn’t there. The line, “There is no fortune at the end of the road that has no end” is deeply profound and reminds us that TODAY is our fortune, not some promised reward we must work for in the future.
